It is a cliché of photographic criticism to say that an image should still have some formal unity when turned upside down. Yet, this image succeeds on this level and more. The angularity of the boat bisects agreeably with the man stepping off it with his fish. Furthermore, the foreground action is perfectly balanced by the receding perspective of buildings and the fellow fisherman walking towards McCurry's camera.
