Interested in photography since 2008, Juliana Sícoli decided to transform her passion into a profession and plunged into the professional photography market. Stimulated by the aesthetics and visual communication, she worked as an independent photographer for advertising agencies in São Paulo, in each assignment harnessing her passion for photography and her growing vocation for communicating through images. It was during this period that she felt the necessity to transform her working profession into pure expression and explore through artistic photography a form with which to communicate with the world.
In her first authorial work in 2014, she created the project entitled “Women that Inspire”, discovering a conceptual irection that would guide her creative process as a photographer and artist. Ricardo Fernandes |

O trabalho “Ainda assim falo” integra uma importante discussão, através de uma pesquisa que a artista visual Juliana Sícoli fez no sistema manicomial do Brasil, entre os anos 1920 e 2000, com foco nas internas e suas tentativas de sobrevivência, as quais foram registradas em cartas na época, mas que nunca foram entregues.
Costurando trechos destas cartas no verso das fotografias, em que justapõe sua própria imagem a retratos apropriados de outras mulheres, como uma forma de se colocar no lugar destas e traze-las para o tempo atual, a artista busca iluminar essa face obscura do patriarcado que ainda hoje existe - e de maneiras cada vez mais veladas.
Num momento em que o mundo necessita urgentemente rever questões estruturais que relegam ao obscurantismo as “maiorias minorizadas” pela imposição da força e poder, a pesquisa busca trazer uma reflexão sobre os padrões de silenciamento que colocam o Brasil como um dos países com o mais alto índice de feminicídio do mundo.
