Born in Guatemala in 1957, Palma is one of the most important Latin American photographers in activity today. Despite his prolific photographic career, he graduated as an architect, a background that influences the way he approaches photography. His work is an integral part of the collection of the Art Institute of Chicago; the Museum für Fotografie, Berlin; Maison Européenne de la Photographie, Paris; Daros Foundation, Zurich; Buenos Aires Museum of Fine Arts, Cleveland Museum of Art, Ohio USA; Deutsche Bank AG, New York; Israel Museum of art, Jerusalem, Israel among many other institutions. |

Symbolism is very important in the work of Luis González Palma: he uses symbols to convey his strong ideas. Along with the symbolism, he uses sepia tones in all his photographs, and leaves in many of them the whites of his eyes without color, to intensify the subject's gaze, which brings up the problems that the artist is trying to explain or explore. Palma often collages his photographs, overlaying them in layers with important words or symbols. He states that he tries to "portray the soul of a people" in his photos. He became a prominent Guatemalan modernist photographer.
